What does Y-DNA j2b2 haplogroup imply.

  
 
Summary: The j2b2 group implies a West Asia/ Middle eastern origin within historical time periods, i.e less than 5,000 years ago.

 
  So what does Y-DNA J2b2d imply and mean. This will be a really simplistic over view. For more information please read some of the references listed at the bottom of the page.

50,000 Years Ago: There was a Mr. J who had sons and his sons had sons etc. Mr. J and his descendants lived around the Middle East Fertile crescent and Turkey.

20,000 Years Ago: There was a Mr J1 who was a descendant of Mr. J. Mr. J1's descendants are most of the Semitic peoples, including Jews and Arabs. We are not going to concern ourselves too much about Mr J1. Our relationship to him separated 20,000 years ago.

10,000 Years Ago: There was a Mr J2 who was also descendant of Mr. J. Mr J2's descendants are not common among Arabs. Mr J2's descendants are common among the Turkish, Kurdish Iranian and Jewish populations and significant frequencies are found in the Caucasus, Iran, and South Central Asia. Prominent European areas of J2 abundance include the Iberian Peninsula, Italy, the Balkans and Greece.

5,000 Years Ago: There was a Mr J2a who was a descendant of Mr. J2.We are not going to concern ourselves too much about Mr J2a. Our relationship to him separated 5,000 years ago.

5,000 Years Ago: There was a Mr J2b who was also a descendant of Mr. J2. Mr J2b's descendants are common in Balkans, Greece and Italy (North and Central regions), reaching frequencies around 5-10%.

less than 5,000 Years Ago: There was a Mr J2b2 who was a descendant of Mr. J2b. Mr. J2b2's descendants are present in India, where it appears to have the highest frequency among the middle castes (Dravidian and Indo-European). Mr. J2b2's descendants are ~5% in India and is half that in neighboring Pakistan. Mr. J2b2's descendants are also present in Anatolia, in the Balkans 1 to 4% overall and peak of ~17% for Kosovar Albanians.

Now for the 100 dollar question. In which country did Mr. J2b2 live ?
Did Mr. J2b2 live in the Balkans and then his descendants move to India. Or was was it that Mr. J2b2 lived in India and then his descendants moved to the Balkans. One of the theories is that Mr. J2b2's descendant were part of Alexander the Greats army which made itself all the way to India. This guy thinks Mr. J2b2 lived in the Balkans/Middle East and moved to India and argues that it is the predominant Y-DNA among the Vellalas. nb: we do not endorse some of the racist thinking that is also on this site.
